The company evolved from a need that appeared over the past 20 years of New Zealand breeders exporting sheep genetics overseas.

Whether live shipments, semen or embryos, breeders and those buying the genetics needed a partner organization that could guarantee full support from the breeders’ paddock to the buyer’s paddock.

The Man Behind NZ Sheep Genetics Ltd

Arthur Blakely knows sheep, knows the features breeders look for and knows how to produce them.

He started breeding stud sheep in 1966 and continued to do so until recently.

While his focus was the Corriedale stud, He was also very successful with other breeds such as Suffolks, Poll Dorsets, and more latterly Friesians and Dorpers.

Showing sheep so successfully lead to Arthur being a sort after international judge not just here in New Zealand but around the world, an honour offered to very few breeders.

He says the aims of the business is simply to provide the best genetics available over the full range of sheep bred in New Zealand as well as milking goats, and to ensure that his buyers get the best attention and value available.
